Welcome to Vida Charter School.
From the outside, we may look like the typical small-town school, but what happens inside our classrooms is absolutely unique in Pennsylvania.
Located in the small town of Gettysburg, we are the future, educating more than 200 students in Spanish and English. Both languages are equally spoken, read, and written by our students. All subjects, including mathematics, science, and history, are taught in both languages. Our goal is for students to leave sixth grade being fully bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.
Another distinction is our special focus on Healthy Lifestyles. With a full-time teacher on staff, we ensure that students engage in regular physical activity and learn about healthy food choices. Our Wellness Committee, made up of parents and teachers, ensures that we look at all aspects of the school from a wellness perspective.
Vida’s Executive Director, Dr. Jaime A. Castellano, is a nationally recognized expert on gifted education, particularly identification of giftedness in Hispanic children. With his guidance, the school has instituted several new initiatives:

Every student is tested for general intelligence, as well as specific intelligences. However, other factors – such as language facility, cultural competency, and emotional maturity - are considered too.
- Specialists in Reading and Mathematics are on staff to provide enhanced learning opportunities for students – inside and outside of the classroom.
- The Schoolwide Cluster Grouping Model, as developed at Purdue University, provides a framework for addressing the needs of every student in the school.
